OpenCulturas invites exploration—interested users can browse freely and discover new inspiration. But sometimes you need speed, which is why a search function is built in.
Global search
The global search field can be placed almost anywhere in the layout. After entering search terms, users land on the search results page. When many results appear, the search can be refined using:
- Facets to filter by keywords or accessibility criteria
- The search term remains in the field and can be extended
- Optional autocomplete suggestions
All published content is searchable, with multilingual platforms returning results in the currently selected language. Individual items can be excluded from search if needed—for example, the homepage.
Search index entries are weighted by data field, so a search term in an editorial article’s title carries more relevance than the same term in an event’s safety notice. These relevance settings have been continuously improved based on feedback from the OpenCulturas community.

Search on special entry pages
Additional, specialized search and filtering functions are available on several central entry pages:
- In the calendar (combined with radius search, filtering by date range, title, type, etc.)
- In the location overview (including nearby locations, filters e.g. by keywords, accessibility)
- On the community entry page (search/filter by name, keywords, etc.)
- In the event catalog (repertoires filterable by minimum age, touring capability, and more)
Here, only the relevant content types are searched, and filter options are tailored accordingly.
